1. A Person's Hand Vs. A Gorilla's Hand
Most people haven't seen a gorilla in real life and even when they do get to see one, they can't get a good look at it because they are not too close enough for a good comparison. This person however, got a rare opportunity to get super close to this gorilla just to compare their hands.
This photo also reminded us of Harambe (RIP you innocent soul). Anyway, this photo also shows the many similarities that humans have with gorillas. One of the things that set them apart is the use of opposable thumbs. Isn't it a stunning sight?
2. A Moose Compared To a Car
Most people may have seen a moose only in movies, but the sight of this majestic animal is one you can't forget. It is because in movies and animations they don't really show the true size of a moose or other animals.
We find cars to be big and heavy, but here they look like nothing compared to the moose. It is pretty amazing stuff. If you ever get to see a moose for real, don’t go near it for a comparison photo.
3. That's A Whale Skull
What movies have shown us is that sharks are predators and they love to eat humans. And although it is not the same case with whales, most humans don't really know that much about them. So, here is a photo of a person next to a whale's skull. It is quite the eye-opener, right? And just look at the eye sockets. They are humongous in comparison to the human body.
Some may think that this is photoshopped, but whales this big do exist. By the way, the blue whale (Balaenoptera musculus) is the largest animal on earth. It can reach a maximum length of 98 feet (29.9 meters) and 190 tons.
4. A Person Holding A Giant Freshwater Stingray
A majority of people who have seen stingrays think that this cartilaginous fish related to sharks comes only in a small size. Even the stingrays we see in aquariums are quite small. But here's a picture of a giant freshwater stingray, one of the largest freshwater fish in the world. Wow!!!
Interestingly, a giant freshwater stingray weighing about 800lbs was caught in Thailand on the Mae Klong River by American TV nature conservationist Jeff Corwin. It was about 8ft wide and 14ft long. It looks impressive and a little bit scary as well.
5. Coconut Crab Or Garbage Can Crab?
As we live in an advanced world, we have distanced ourselves from the wild. This means that even looking at any wild animal (excluding raccoons) can excite us. So, this person found a fascinating creature out there. A coconut crab that was trying to open garbage can.
Most of us are not used to seeing such large creatures. So, if you come across a coconut crab trying to find something in your trash, don't try to disturb it.
6. A Person Next To Michelangelo’s David
You might have seen this in the history books. And it comes up in so many pop culture references as well. But have you ever conceptualized how big it is?
Well, you can get a pretty clear idea when a person stands next to it. As it is an iconic monument, it makes sense that it would be significant.
7. Getting Close To A Saltwater Crocodile
This is one of those photos that terrifies you but also gives you goosebumps thinking about the experience of being so close to a saltwater crocodile. You may have imagined the huge size of an elephant because you can go near it and even ride it in some parts of the world. But that's not the same with a crocodile because going near it increases your chances of getting snatched and riding it can mean just one thing: no chance of survival.
This lady wanted to see a saltwater crocodile up close and look at how big it is. The jaws alone look like a relatively small person. This beast is harrowing and now we know why it didn't go extinct like many other animals.
8. A Comet Compared To Los Angeles
Although humans have made big strides in space exploration, we can't really compare anything to it. Here is how a comet from space would look when compared to the city of Los Angeles.
We can be thankful that nothing like this comet is heading towards us and hopefully it never does. Just to get an idea about it, you can watch movies on how the world comes close to an end due to an approaching comet. They are fun and maybe you'll have a new perspective on life.
9. An Eagle Talon Vs. A Human Hand
You may have seen spectacular videos of an eagle catching fish out of the water in full flight. There are many videos of eagles hunting and there are even stories of eagles carrying off human babies; the later one has not been documented.
Nevertheless, eagles have the power to carry heavy prey and fly off with it. And just to make it clear, eagles don't hunt humans, but they can seriously injure a human if they feel threatened. So, if you find an eagle somewhere, don't go near it out of curiously.
10. Camel Vs. A Person
Not seeing too many animals may have led us to believe that they are not really all that big. For instance, most of us watch animals on National Geographic or other TV channels and not in real life. Take the example of a camel.
They are actually bigger than we expected. Do you think a horse is big? Well, camels are way bigger than an average horse. Of course, camels have humps that make them appear much larger as well. But look at this one. The head of this camel alone is the size of the girl's torso.
11. Titanic Vs. A Modern-Day Cruise Ship
If you haven't watched the movie Titanic or know about its history, then we are giving a spoiler warning. It was the largest ship afloat at the time.
On its maiden voyage across the ocean, the ship hit an iceberg and sank, killing more than 1,500 died of the estimated 2,224 passengers and crew aboard. It was so huge at that time, but it is strange that the ship is dwarfed by many of today's modern ships.
12. A Bison Male Vs. A Person
Although the Bison is native to the United States, not many people know a lot about this beautiful animal. Did you know that the bison is the largest mammal in North America? A male bison can be as tall as 6 feet and weigh about 2,000 pounds. To give you a better idea of how big a bison can be, we just showed you its head.
So, here we just compared bison's head with the entire guy. How crazy is that, right? There are approximately 10,000 bison in America. It is a beautiful animal that is not only big but fast as well. It can easily run up to 35 miles per hour.
13. Mining Dumping Truck Vs. School Bus
School buses are big, right? If not, then why some people go as far as converting them into temporary homes? The point is that they are big enough to live in. But if they are spacious enough to live quite easily, what about living in a mining dump truck - it'd be like living in a mansion. Well, we don't know if anyone would try to live in a mining dump truck, but we are quite sure that a school bus looks like a toy in front of it.
If you look closely at the mining dump truck, you will see that there are several staircases, doors, and even a control room. To make it even crazier, the tire alone is bigger than a school bus. And now, imagine standing next to it. Mind-blowing stuff, right?
14. A Gentle Elephant Seal
First of all, this is not the new Jabba the Hutt. This is a famous giant elephant seal named Minazo who lives in Japan's Enoshima Aquarium. It is the most famous elephant seal in the world.
Japanese people love him. In fact, a Japanese musician even did a two-volume concept album on this celebrity. If you get a chance, would you shake hands with this gentle giant?
15. A Chubby Wombat?
We have to admit that we thought wombats are like koalas and can't get too big. But we were so wrong. This cutie-pie is big and beautiful. And just look at its face. How can someone resist the temptation to hug it?
Why does it look like the wombat is a panda by nature? Do keep in mind that wombats are known to be adorable and docile, but they can be aggressive when they feel threatened.
16. NASA's Mars Curiosity
NASA launched the car-sized rover Curiosity in 2011 as a part of its Mars Science Laboratory mission. It landed on Mars on August 6th, 2012. Did you know that it cost $2.5 billion to make it? The purpose of Curiosity is to explore the climate surrounding the planet and check out other things like the role of water. It has been on Mars for 2889 total days and counting.
NASA is already planning another rover to carry different scientific instruments. So, this is how Curiosity looks when it is put next to a person. We are sure most people standing near it would be "curious" to know more about it.
17. A Labrador Standing Next To A Wolf
Although it may not seem as impressive as what you have seen so far, it is quite amazing to see a dog (a direct descendent of the gray wolf) standing next to a wolf.
As there are different breeds of dogs, one wonders what would have happened if there was Great Dane (the largest dog breed) or American Mastiff standing next to the wolf.
18. Don't Climb The Tree To Avoid A Tiger
You can see that the lady on the left is trying to reach as high as she can against the same tree as the beautiful tiger on the right.
So, it is quite clear that climbing a tree to avoid a tiger is not an option. It may remind cat owners how their cats like to climb or stretch their bodies like this.
19. Giant leatherback Sea Turtle Enjoying Some Beach Time
You've seen small turtles and then there are big turtles that are truly exceptional. As tiny pet turtles are so cute and common, people often seem to neglect the fact that giant leatherback sea turtles can grow so big (hence the name giant).
They can weigh in between 550 and 2,000 pounds with lengths of up to six feet. What we can say with certainty is that TV documentaries cannot give a clear idea of how big and spectacular these creatures can be.
20. Traffic Light Compared To A Person
We don’t exactly know how this person got a “green light” to have this picture taken (you see what we did here?).
Most of us see traffic lights almost every single day, but we never seem to wonder what it'll look like to stand next to one. It is because the traffic light is stuck up on a metal pole and looks quite small. But to give you an idea of the size comparison, this person stood with a traffic light.
21. Road Signs Are Bigger Than You Think
Just like we never really notice the size of the traffic lights, we also overlook road signs as well. Although road signs come in different shapes and sizes, the ones on the highway are usually way bigger than you think. Have a look at these people working on a giant road sign.
As humans have built so many big things, this one might not impress some people. Nevertheless, it is humongous and one wonders how many days it took to create this road sign. The next image makes building road signs look like a child’s play.
22. Human Skeleton Next To An African Elephant Skull
Although the human skeleton is impressive, it holds very little significance when it is in front of an African elephant skull. As it already looking so intimidating, just imagine how it would look if the human skeleton was in front of the entire skeleton.
We don't get to see an elephant as often as we see humans (how sad), and their sheer scale simply baffles us. Now we know that The Jungle Book animation wasn't really accurate.
23. A Moai Statue In Easter Island
Easter Island is a remote volcanic island in Polynesia. The mysteries of the island have beguiled people for so long; one such mystery is why the people that had been living there suddenly left without any evidence as to why.
Although the Moai statues may not seem impressive in size if you put them next to a skyscraper, it is important to remember that they were built between the years of 1200 and 1500. The average height of a statue is about 4 meters and what makes them so fascinating is that all of them are made by hand.
24. A Wolf Vs. Coyotes
This photo is so intimidating and impressive at the same time. Oh boy, just look at the wolf's eyes as it is about to attack the coyotes. This extremely menacing photo shows how large a wolf is. Although you can see a wolf in captivity, there is something so special about seeing them out in the wild.
Here are some interesting facts about wolves. As wolves are the largest members of the dog family, they can eat 20 pounds of meat at a single sitting and roam 12 miles in a single day. They can live about 16 years in captivity and about 13 years in the wild.
25. Teletubbies Are Quite Huge
How did you feel when you saw Teletubbies for the first time? Most of you may have imagined that they were the size of a regular adult.
But it is time to change that opinion because Teletubbies are over seven feet tall, meaning that they dwarfed everyone on the set. It is not a horrifying comparison at all, right?
26. A Human In Front Of The Great Pyramid Of Giza
If you want to see the Great Pyramid of Giza, you'd have to spend a lot of money to get there. For now, you can watch documentaries on it. But do include visiting the Great Pyramid of Giza in your bucket list because it is definitely worth it.
This 146.7 meters (481 ft.) tall man-made structure is the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. It was built around 2560 BC and experts believe that it took about 10-to-20 years to complete it.
27. A Giant Centipede
Although centipedes are not quite so appealing, they are pretty spectacular creatures. Most of us have only seen smaller centipedes and that's why we never think that they can be bigger in size.
Well, this is how a giant centipede looks next to a person's hand. We do admire this man for fearlessly taking this photo with a centipede next to his hand, we would never do it even it was a smaller centipede.
28. A Person Vs. A Wind Turbine Blade
We wanted everyone to see the comparison photo of a person standing next to a wind turbine blade. And do we really need to explain how awesome it looks? This is just one blade and it is enormous. Just imagine how they take these huge blades to different places, especially hilly areas.
If you want to see how they take them, watch videos on how trucks carry big blades. We urge you to watch them because you'll be surprised to see the size of blades and the mastery of experienced drivers
29. Shaquille O’Neal Vs. A Chicken Wing
We compared people with a lot of bigger things, but what happens when you compare tall people with other things? If you somehow don't know who this is, this is Shaquille O'Neal, a former professional basketball player.
So, now you know why comparing him to a chicken wing was the best choice. An average-sized chicken wing doesn't look so small. But in the hand of Shaq, a chicken wing looks like a toothpick.
30. Wind Turbine Vs. A Person
You may have seen photos of a wind turbine blade next to a person, but this one takes things to a higher level. Seeing wind turbines from a distance makes them look not so big, but this device that converts the wind's kinetic energy into electrical energy is so huge that the camera had to zoom in to find the person. This is crazy.
Thankfully, the wind turbine was fully secured in the ground. If you ever find a wind turbine, take a photo and just go away. You don't want the wind turbine to fall down and if it does start falling down, don't run straight like they do in the movies.
31. Is That An Alien?
This is one crawling creature that can make your skin crawl. Just imagine seeing this creature moving around with all those little legs. And now that you are imagining, just think about what would happen if it started running towards you.
Jokes apart, there is nothing to worry about because this is just a prop. Now that you are relaxed, there is one thing you need to know. Some caterpillars can grow to the size of a hot dog, such as the Hickory Horned Devil Caterpillar.
32. Discovering A Big Fossil
Ammonoid, also called ammonite, is a group of extinct cephalopods and their fossils that can be found in marine rocks. So, you can understand the excitement these guys must have felt when they found the remains of this ancient beast.
We are not sure if these guys tried to get the fossil back into their home, but it sure has what it takes to become the center of attention anywhere it goes. Maybe the scientists got ahold of the fossil to study it. Nevertheless, it is an awesome discovery.
33. Wind Turbines Compared To A Tornado
We showed you how small a person looks next to the wind turbine and here a tornado that makes wind turbines look even smaller. This picture of a tornado is more intimidating than anything you saw on this list.
Tornadoes are quite fascinating, but they can be terrifying as well. As per the F-Scale Number, a tornado can have a wind speed of 261-318 mph, which is enough to damage even steel-reinforced concrete structures. And then there is F6 (inconceivable tornado) with wind speeds of 319-379 mph. Although Hollywood is known for exaggerating most things, we feel that it didn't do a good enough job at showing us the actual size and intensity of a tornado.
34. A Giant Fur Ball
This dog breed is the Pyrenean Mountain Dog, also known as the Great Pyrenees. Now that the breed's name starts with the word "great", you can imagine how awesome this breed can be. Traces of this breed date back to the 17th century and it is a perfect livestock guardian dog.
This dog can easily reach 130 pounds and grow up to 31 inches. Overall, the life expectancy of the dog is 10-12 years and it is known as a confident, patient, and gentle breed.
35. Australia Vs. Pluto
Australia measures about 4,000 km wide and the size of the diameter of Pluto is 2,370 km across. So yes, Australia is bigger than Pluto. It looks so crazy, right? But given that Pluto is no longer a planet, does it really count if Australia is bigger?
We have nothing against Australia, but we just feel sad for Pluto because first it lost its planet status and now everyone is humiliating it for losing to Australia. This is so sad.
36. For The Love Of Lord Of The Rings
We have to make it clear that there was no use of camera trickery to take this amazing shot. This is not an actual gold ring as it is a prop of the One Ring from the famous Lord of the Rings.
Director Peter Jackson wanted to create the illusion of the tiny hobbits and that's why he often used forced perspective technique. In this technique, he created optical illusions to make objects appear smaller or larger than their actual size. That's why the production had to create a lot of props.
37. Heart Of A Whale
A whale is not only the largest mammal on the planet, but it also has a big heart (literally, it has the biggest heart on the planet). A blue whale's heart is 640 times much heavier than a human heart.
Moreover, the arteries and veins of the heart are so wide that children can easily climb through them. In other words, they can play with a whale's heart. Who knew whales could be so generous and open-hearted creatures.
38. A Massive Redwood Tree Vs. A Person
Although standing next to a tree always makes us look dwarf, we never get too excited to see the comparison. So, here is a comparison photo that makes all other trees look tiny. These are the redwoods (Sequoia sempervirens), the tallest trees in the world.
These trees can easily reach the heights of 300 feet (91 meters) and that's not all. A redwood tree named Hyperion is 379.7 feet (115.7 m) tall. This average-sized person is standing in front of the largest redwood trees and it seems like something out of this world. This is a massive tree that makes a person look like an ant.
39. The Earth Compared To The Sun
Do you think that size matters? This question is quite simple, so don't start assuming things, okay. Well, the reason behind asking the size question is that earth would lose many, many times if it were to battle the sun.
The sun is 864,400 miles across and it means that it is 109 times the diameter of the earth. In other words, 1,300,000 planet earths can easily fit inside the sun. For a visual representation, here are tiny balls inside one large ball. Although Australia is bigger than Pluto in size, the sun simply beats us without any trouble at all.
40. A Person Holding A Victoria Amazonica Leaf
This plant is native to the Amazon River basin and looking at it makes you want to explore the Amazon, which is home to some of nature's most awe-inspiring treasures.
This man is holding a single leaf of Victoria Amazonica, a species of a flowering plant. Its leaf can grow up to 3 meters (9.8 ft.) in diameter and stalk up to 8 meters (26 ft.) in length. This species is the largest of the Nymphaeaceae family of water lilies. Moreover, Victoria Amazonica is the national flower of Guyana.
41. Arm Of An Excavator Vs. A Human
This is a beast, wow, thank goodness no one was hurt while taking this photo. Seeing how easily a woman fits right in the arm of an excavator, one wonders how many people in total can easily fit in there. On second thought, it is best not to try it.
We have to admit that these machines are enormous and a bit scary. They do get the job done quickly and efficiently though.
42. The Moon Vs. The United States
As we compared the sun with the earth and Australia with Pluto, why not we do one more comparison, right? Have you ever thought about how the moon compares to earth? It is smaller than you thought. If you compare both of them, it shows that the United States is quite big.
We just hope the moon doesn’t get depressed by it like Pluto. After all, Pluto had it really bad and we keep on saying that we feel bad for it, but the reality is that it's not going to stop us from making those comparisons.
43. Perspective Matters
Okay, so this one is really crazy in a sense that perspective seems massively skewed. It is because here the person who took this photo placed $10,000 in hundred dollars next to $1 notes of the same value. Who knows they use this trick in the movies as well. This reminded us of the TV show Breaking Bad.
It is a good way to show off your money. As we are living in a world where showing off is praised and even loved, this photo can put new ideas into some minds. Our advice is not to do anything like that. Please!!!
44. Look At The Size Of These 400,000 Volt Cables
Most of us don't know a lot about construction and we don't care to know much about it as well. But then someone goes on to post a photo like this one and everyone starts to get amazed and becomes curious to know more about it.
This is a 400,000-volt cable that is like a bed of cables. And don't even think about comparing it to your phone or laptop charger.
45. Another Moose Comparison
We just feel that the Moose is an incredible animal. Okay, the reason why we are showing this comparison is that we thought you weren't fully impressed with the parking lot comparison photo.
So, here is another one to make things more clear. Just look at its legs. The largest recorded Alaska moose weighed 820 kg (1,808 lb.) and was 7.6 ft. tall at the shoulder. By the way, the largest elephant ever recorded was 13.0 ft. in height.
46. A South American Snake The Size Of An 18-Wheeler
We should probably be happy that this monster snake dined mainly on fish. They must have been pretty massive fish though, perhaps even ones that are elsewhere in this very article. Nonetheless, it's enough to make your skin crawl knowing that these gigantic creatures were out there living somewhere, and somehow even worse that they could be hiding in the murky depths of streams and rivers, just waiting for us to dip our toes in.
The one consolation is that this specific species, Titanoboa, is said to be extinct. The bad news is there's no way to prove that something is extinct, we just have to assume since it hasn't been seen. But remember how they lurk at the bottom of muddy rivers and streams? Watch your toes...
