1. West End, Grand Bahama Islands
There is no denying that the Bahamas is one of the places everyone should visit. After all, they have some of the most unimaginable swimming conditions that can make any diver feel mesmerized. As they have a lot of sea life, this place attracts a lot of sharks. Take an example of Tiger Beach where you can find a lot of tiger sharks. And if you don’t know, tiger sharks are one of the most aggressive and vicious shark species.
2. Potomac River
Some places do not look dangerous at all but in reality, they are completely opposite. Take an example of the Potomac River that is absolutely not safe for swimming. It is because it has rapids that can easily pull you under and you’ll find yourself at the bottom within no time. Once you are pulled by the rapids, it would be hard for you to come to the surface. Given that humans can’t swim underwater (unless you are a superhuman), it is best to avoid this place.
3. Jacob’s Well
It may seem like a beautiful lake, but the truth is that it is responsible for the death of many people. It is a lake that you should always avoid, even if your friends say “come on, it’ll be fun!” It is located in south-central Texas and is regarded as one of the cooler lakes in the area. The crystal clear waters even enable you to look straight to the bottom. The secret behind the coolness of that the lake has a system of tunnels and caves beneath it. Although people can explore the depths of this lake, many souls do not come out once they embark into the depths of this lake. It is because navigating the underwater tunnels can be really difficult.
4. The Nile River
Although the Nile River has earned a reputation as the cradle of humanity, it is certainly one of those places that you should avoid. Well, it is because the Nile River has a lot of crocodiles that can easily kill you. There are actually about 100 crocodile attacks per year in the Nile River (most of the attacks are deadly). Movies depict sharks as a really dangerous predator in the waters (there are 70 to 100 shark attacks worldwide every year and about 5 to 15 deaths a year). There is a big difference between crocodile attacks and shark attacks. So, just avoid taking a dip in the River Nile.
5. Bubbly Creek
It is an area of the Chicago River that is not suitable for swimming at all. The primary reason is the amount of disgusting, loathsome things that you’ll find in the lake. From discarded meat to fecal matter, you’ll find a lot of disgusting things floating on the surface of the lake. As all the items decay over time, the water becomes more toxic for even the marine life. Even if you just want a nice place to sit and enjoy some peace, this is certainly not the place for you.
6. Eagle’s Nest Sink Hole
Although this sinkhole is okay to swim, it becomes dangerous when someone decides to dive into it. Located in Florida, Eagle’s Nest Sink Hole dips down below to 300 feet. It has been responsible for at least 10 deaths. Given that it has become a notoriously dangerous place for cave divers, it has been closed indefinitely. The danger of the holes inside the sink makes even experienced divers change their minds. Only experienced divers can enter the hole and still they are recommended to stop when they make it to the sign underwater.
7. Hanakapiai Beach
There is no denying that Hawaiian beaches are some of the most breathtaking beaches in the world. Although the Hanakapiai Beach is really beautiful, it has some of the most powerful rip tides. In fact, this beach is responsible for over 80 deaths. Do consider this whenever you decide to visit this beach. Some people try to brave the waves but they forget about the deadly current the waves hold. For instance, a person saw the waves pulling two boys into the sea. Their father quickly jumped in to save them. Fortunately, the nearby helicopters were able to rescue the boys in time.
8. Kipu Falls
Although Kipu falls is a really popular tourist destination, it is also a place where many unfortunate people lost their lives. However, the exact reason behind the deaths is not confirmed but many succumbed to the waves. There is one likely explanation behind the drowning incidents that this place is visited by many tourists and it automatically increases the probability of such unfortunate incidents. Nevertheless, it is better to be safe than sorry.
9. Lake Karachay
Located in central Russia, Lake Karachay is considered one of the most toxic lakes on earth. It may look a beautiful lake at first glance, but looks can actually deceive you (and kill you). It is because the Russian government polluted the lake with toxic waste in an era when there weren’t many regulations on dumping toxic waste. The toxicity level is so high in Lake Karachay that it could kill you within an hour. The good news is that the government decided to fill in the lake with concrete. In a few years, this lake won’t be able to scare the local inhabitants of the area.
10. Gulf of Thailand
When it comes to making a list of animals that look innocent but are super dangerous, it would be incomplete without jellyfish. The little creature has a powerful sting that can kill a person within no time. The Gulf of Thailand is dangerous because of these little creatures. If you ever think about swimming in such waters, then you’d have to dress properly and just cross your fingers for your luck.
11. The Ganges River
The Ganges River holds immense importance in Hinduism. It is considered sacred and people believe that bathing in the river causes the remission of sins. However, industrialization has made Riven Ganges one of the most dangerous areas to swim. As of result of industrialization, the Ganges River has become toxic to such a level that a dip in the waters could lead to many unexpected diseases. From trash, plastic, to feces, it has everything in it.
12. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
This may seem like a normal beach in South Carolina, but it can turn deadly on some occasions. The beach is okay to visit but the rip tides make it a dangerous place for a swim. On a day, the rip tides can induce trouble for people who are caught in them. Not only the riptides can induce trouble, but there is also warm-water cannonball jellyfish that can be deadly. So, it is best for you to avoid this beach (there are many other beaches for you to explore).
13. Queensland, Australia
Queensland has become one of the most deadly places to swim. It is because of one obvious reason: it has a lot of deadly and terrifying creatures. So, going there for a swim would probably be your last mistake. The Queensland is home to some of the really terrifying sea creatures that include sharks, saltwater crocodiles, stonefish, and the exceptionally deadly blue-ringed octopi and box jellyfish. One sting from the box jellyfish can kill you within minutes.
14. Victoria Falls
Located in Zambia, Victoria Falls is a place where you should never ever think of swimming. And yet people do go there to have some fun. Although the place has one of the greatest series of waterfalls, it is also one of the most dangerous places on earth. A nice refreshing swim at this place could lead to a death-fall. At the edge of the falls, there are things as shown in the picture called “The Devil’s Pools”. This picture can give you an idea of how dangerous it is to go there.
